My passion and experience are in wilderness and geography maps, so mapping this complex tapestry of wild lands, public parks, and urban infrastructure was a welcome challenge.

To maximize detail, I split the maps into north and south of the Golden Gate Bridge. I then worked closely with the writer and designer on my team to integrate the maps seamlessly with the design—this not only looks good but, again, maximizes size and detail.

On the data side, since this is such an urban park, I had to collect data from city, county, state, and federal sources. Other than collating and sorting the data, hand-fixing and verifying the topology of boundaries, roads, streams, and shorelines took the most time.
